DEERING, NH: Marc A. “Commander” Cripe, long-time resident of Robin Hill Farm in Deering New Hampshire, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020 with many friends at his side. Marc was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Cripe, father, Alan Cripe, mother, Janet Cripe (Janus), and cousin, Bonnie Markiewicz (Boulos).
Marc was born June 22, 1951 in Shaker Heights, Ohio. As a teenager in the late 1960s, Marc was in a severe car crash resulting in traumatic brain injury (TBI). He would never have the life he was meant to have and he was keenly aware of that. His parents were devoted to finding programs to help Marc live as normal and happy a life as possible. Marc and his parents lived through the development and understanding of the care for people with TBI in the ensuing decades. Marc’s arrival at Robin Hill Farm in 1999 was the answer to years of prayers and hard work by the family and friends who made it possible.
Marc loved classical music, trains, airplanes, cars, horses, science fiction, and the color red. He was fascinated with and studied New Hampshire’s pre-eminent place in UFO lore, being the site of one of the most famous UFO incidents in American history. He was especially good at weaving together many of his interests into fascinating stories, among which was a story about how horses keep UFOs from landing in fields.
Marc knew he had hit the jackpot with the love, support, care, and normality of life that he experienced at Robin Hill Farm these past 21 years. He leaves behind his cousins, Carole Schmitt (Boulos), Kimberly Schmitt-Allen, Michael Schmitt (Marc’s Guardian), John Schmitt, Joy Bilger (Markiewicz), and Janus Wilken (Markiewicz). He leaves behind many loving friends, John Roberts, Sandy Graham, Gene Hulbert, the Donovan family, and the staff at Robin Hill Farm and Community Bridges, Heather, Becky, Sheryl, Maegen, Brittany, Dianne, Joyce, and so many more.
We will all feel a void at Marc’s passing, but will be comforted by memories of his determination in the face of great adversity, wicked sense of humor, and colorful imagination.
A Celebration of Marc’s Life will be held on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 2:00 pm Eastern Time (1:00pm Central Time) via Zoom. Pastor Paul of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church will be participating.
The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service Hillsboro, NH is assisting the family
In Marc’s memory, please consider making a donation to the New Hampshire Brain Injury Association (https://bianh.org/).
