James B. Schaefer

James B. SchaeferANTRIM, NH:  James B. Schaefer 74, on Sunday, February 5th, heaven’s gate opened and was looking for a special person.  Heaven did not find just a special person, but found a truly amazing one in James B. Schaefer.  Jim was a faithful, loving husband, a soul mate for 53 plus years, to the woman he adored, his wife, Beverly J. (Sipko) Schaefer.  Through the years their fondness together of antiques grew.  Hers of smalls, and his of oak furniture. His talent saw through years of dust, tattered drawers and wear and tear.  His hands restored the old into masterpieces. Those masterpieces are relished today in many households across the country.

Jim retired after twenty-years from the New Hampshire Highway Department of Hillsborough’s DOT 404.  He built the family’s log home in Antrim from a blueprint, including all the plumbing and wood work. In the family home, his “relaxing” was watching the Mighty Montréal Canadiens defeat the Big Bad Bruins.

Animals, Jim loved all of them. He fed chickadees by hand, fostered battered-torn chipmunks to live another day and back around 1984, Jim saved a young female Broad-Winged Hawk.  She was still in down feathers, and had fallen from her nest. He raised her and saved her life.   She was later given to The Squam Lakes Science Center, and because she was so friendly, she was brought to area schools to educate countless children about birds of prey.  His passion and love though were for his Dobermans.  Sadly, he is leaving behind his beloved “Sara” here on earth, but he will, however, be reunited with “Stryker,” “Reuben,” “China and Baron.”

Jim will be missed not only as a father, but also as a mentor and hero to his son, Dennis J. Schaefer.  Along with Dennis are two granddaughters, Amanda B. Schaefer and Nicole R. Schaefer.  They are and will forever be, the sparkle in Jim’s eyes.

Calling hours will be held Saturday Feb. 18, 2017 11 am to Noon at The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 32 School St, Hillsborough, NH 03244
