Carolyn Woodbury

FRANCESTOWN, NH:  Carolyn Woodbury passed away Monday, February 27th at age 92. Carolyn, or Woody as most knew her, grew up at 1928 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island.  She attended Wheaton College for two years and then went to Framingham State Teachers College where she received her teaching degree.  She taught in Wayland MA, and she lived Wayland, MA, Sanibel, FL and Francestown, NH.

Carolyn was born with an adventurous and independent soul.  Her personality always shone through, whether feisty or compassionate, she was one to speak her opinion!

A true naturalist and conservationist, she worked and supported the care of our natural surroundings.  Thrilled to have been interviewed by the local TV station, she spoke adamantly and persuasively about the necessity to preserve New Hampshire lakes, warning of the rise of milfoil.

What fun she had as Queen of the Labor Day Parade and she had many fun times with the Pleasant Pond Players.  She had to watch her tennis, catch a concert at Tanglewood, and follow the Red Sox and the Patriots!  She had an intense love of classical music, poetry and literature and she loved photography and bird-watching.

Carolyn was a traveler, visiting different places and friends both here and abroad.  She traveled extensively with her cousin, Jin, and her travel included an African Safari and visiting the hills of Scotland and Alaska.   She always felt the rolling stone grows no moss!

She was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved her garden and so enjoyed gardens of others!  Carolyn spoke to all of nature; birds, loons, manatees and to the wild chipmunk who would run up her pant leg to her shirt pocket filled with seed!  All children and animals loved her and gravitated close to her to hear a bit of wisdom.   She was a wise old bird and a custodian for her spot on earth, carefully keeping an eye out.

Born with New England spirit, she loved life and lived it to the fullest catching the sun rise and set.  She shall be dearly missed, and thank goodness she left so many memories!

Survived by her cousin, Jin VanKluyve, her nieces and nephews and her cousin Mary.

Burial will be in spring in # 3 Cemetery in Francestown, NH.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service Hillsboro, NH is assisting the family.
