CONTOOCOOK, NH: Susan M. Drescher, long-time resident of Contoocook, NH, passed away peacefully at the Concord Hospital Hospice House on December 12, 2016 in the presence of her family.
Susan, born in 1937 to Mildred and Richard Morton of Concord, NH, lived her life to the fullest. She was dedicated to her family, was an active member of her Contoocook community and the surrounding area, and brought smiles to faces wherever she ventured. She was a sweet, kind, and generous soul.
Raised in Concord, NH by her mother Mildred, Susan attended Concord High School where she met her husband-to-be, Richard Drescher. She attended college for marketing at Lasell Junior College in Newton, MA, and then married Richard (Dick) Drescher in a Brookline, MA church. After visiting post-war Germany while husband Dick was in the service, the Dreschers returned in the early 1960s to settle in Contoocook, NH.
For over 20 years, Susan worked as a secretary in the local high school. An avid reader, she was a long-time volunteer and supporter of the local library. She played the coronet in the Hopkinton Town Band, marching in many 4th of July and Memorial Day parades, and also served for many years in the Contoocook United Methodist Service Club.
A lover of flowers, she was active in the Hopkinton Garden Club right up until this past summer. Susan had a passion for yard sales, antiques, and memorabilia, and for many years had a booth in the Parker French Antiques shop over in Northwood, NH. This she continued to do until only a couple of weeks before her passing. Throughout her life, Susan participated in organizing her high school class of ‘55 reunions, which have taken place with regularity.
Susan was predeceased by her brother, Richard Morton, from New Jersey and Georgia, and she is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dick Drescher, and her two children, Peter Drescher of Montpelier, VT, and Rebecca Pillsbury and son-in-law James of Chichester, NH. She is also survived by two wonderful grandchildren, Carter and Mason Pillsbury, 14 and 12, respectively.
Calling hours will be at Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Henniker, NH from 6-8 pm on Friday, December 16th.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17th at the Contoocook United Methodist Church in Contoocook, NH at 11:00 am.
Susan will be laid to rest in the Contoocook Village Cemetery in the Spring.
